Haiku Day

"Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old." - Franz Kafka

Starting in the Spring at 6am these 12 Haiku's and 12 paintings illustrate the passing of all the seasons in a single day and ending with Winter 4am.

Spring 6am

The world of dew

is the world of dew

and yet, and yet -

Spring 8am

Spring!

a nameless hill

in the haze.

- Basho

Spring 10am

Coming back

so many pathways

through the spring grass.

- Buson

Summer 12pm

Early summer rain

houses facing the river

two of them.

- Buson

Summer 2pm

A petal shower

of mountain roses

and the sound of rapids.

- Basho

Summer 4pm

Taking a nap

feet planted

against a cool wall.

- Basho

Fall 6pm

Blow if you will

fall wind - the flowers

have all faded.

- Gansan

Fall 8pm

Leaves never fall

in vain- from all around

bells tolling.

- Chori

Fall 10pm

Autumn evening

there's joy also

in loneliness.

- Buson

Winter 12am

The clouds

are giving these moon watchers

a little break.

- Basho

Winter 2am

Midnight frost

I'd barrow

the scarecrow's shirt.

- Basho

Winter 4am

Winter solitude-

in a world of one color

the sound of wind.

- Basho
